Check the item before you pay

A product being available to buy does not mean it can be accepted by a warehouse or carried on an international route. Check the actual contents, materials and intended destination before committing to the order. Delivery within China does not tell you whether the item can be shipped to your country.

For an ordinary clothing shortlist, pay attention to extras as well as the main item. A bag bundled with a battery, a gift set containing perfume or an accessory with a weapon-like shape needs a different review from a plain garment. Send the complete listing and the selected option when asking about eligibility.

Goods that should stay out of a parcel

OSSBuy’s restrictions cover weapons and their imitations, ammunition, controlled devices, explosives, flammable or pressurised goods, hazardous chemicals, illegal drugs and other unlawful goods. They also cover counterfeit or infringing items, currency and certain valuables, as well as protected wildlife products and other restricted animal or plant materials.

This is a category overview, not a complete item-by-item clearance list. Do not treat a missing example as permission to send it. If the item falls into a prohibited class, leave it out of the order rather than trying a different name or hiding it among clothing.

Take extra care with batteries, liquids and food

Loose batteries, large battery packs, powered mobility devices, aerosols, fuel-containing products and e-cigarettes are among the categories highlighted in the restrictions. A normal-looking accessory may contain one of these components, so review the product specifications rather than relying on its front photograph.

Food, perishables, medicines and liquids need especially careful checking. A route advertised for a particular product type is not approval for every item in that category. Obtain confirmation for the exact contents and destination before buying; if that cannot be confirmed, choose a different item.

What to check before buying
What the listing containsWhat to do
A prohibited or unlawful itemLeave it out. A shipping quote, ordinary label or seller promise does not override a prohibition.
A component needing review, such as a battery, liquid, powder or animal-derived materialDisclose its exact specification before purchase. Ask about buying, warehouse acceptance and the intended route separately.
Unclear specifications or bundled extrasAsk the seller what is included. Do not request clearance from a photograph alone.

What to ask support before you buy

Include the product link, selected version, quantity, material information and destination country. Mention any batteries, magnets, liquids, powders or animal-derived materials. Ask whether the item can be purchased, accepted into the warehouse and shipped on the route you intend to use; those are separate decisions.

Please check [product link], option [version], quantity [number], for delivery to [country and postcode]. It contains [materials and components, with battery or liquid specifications where applicable]. Can this exact item be purchased, received at the warehouse and carried on [intended route]? What documents or restrictions apply?

Keep the answer with your order notes. If the contents or selected option change, ask again rather than applying an earlier answer to a different product. Our shipping route guide explains the other details to compare before dispatch.

If an item is refused at the warehouse

Pause parcel submission and read the handling notice. Depending on the item and applicable rules, refusal can lead to return, disposal or referral to the relevant authorities. Do not assume every rejected item can be returned to its seller or that the cost will be refunded.

Keep the purchase record and ask what action is still available. Read the returns guide before requesting a seller return, and keep the separate storage deadline in view while the issue is being resolved.
