How do I choose an OSSBuy shipping route?

Get quotes for the same destination and packed parcel. Check whether each shipping service accepts your items, how much it costs, what is included and when delivery is expected. A low starting price may not apply to your parcel or address.

Shipping services and prices can change. Save the quote date, destination, parcel weight and box size so you can compare the same shipment across services.

Get these details before comparing shipping prices

  • Destination country, state or region, postcode and address type.
  • Contents, quantities and any components needing an eligibility check.
  • Actual packed weight in kilograms.
  • Outside box dimensions in centimetres: length × width × height.
  • Any packing, protection or delivery service you intend to include.

Item weights added together are an early estimate. The packed box adds material and may occupy more space. If the warehouse has not packed it, mark the size as estimated and compare again when the final measurements arrive.

Check the restricted-items guide before adding batteries, liquids or other unusual contents. A route that accepts one clothing parcel is not automatically suitable after the contents change.

What changes between the USA, UK and European destinations?

Destination checks before requesting a quote
DestinationDetails to verifyQuestion to resolve
United StatesState, ZIP code, address type and any outlying-area restrictions.Does this specific line serve the complete address and include any applicable delivery surcharges?
United KingdomFull postcode, delivery area and whether a territory or special postcode needs a different service.Does this quote cover the actual destination, and who handles the final delivery?
Germany, France, Italy, Spain and other European countriesActual destination country, postal code, contact requirements and final-mile service.Which charges are included for this country, and what can be payable separately?

A Germany quote is not a price for Europe as a whole. Enter the actual country each time. Use the recipient details required for that route and check the final address before payment. Tax treatment depends on the destination, goods and service; a route name alone is not evidence that every charge is included.

Actual weight and volumetric weight: which one are you charged for?

Actual weight is what the packed parcel weighs on a scale. Volumetric weight is a weight calculated from the box’s size. Some services charge for whichever is higher, with their own rounding rules and minimum charge. This is called the billed or chargeable weight.

Example calculation: a 40 × 30 × 25 cm parcel has a volume of 30,000 cm³. If a line used a divisor of 6,000, its volumetric weight would be 5 kg. With an actual weight of 3.2 kg, a greater-of-the-two rule would use 5 kg before any rounding. A divisor of 5,000 would instead give 6 kg.

Use the divisor and units stated for the selected line. Do not apply a centimetre/kilogram divisor to inch/pound inputs. If removing a box reduces the parcel to 40 × 30 × 20 cm, the illustrative 6,000-divisor result becomes 4 kg; that calculation alone does not prove a particular cash saving.

Compare the final packed quote after any change. Our consolidation and packing guide covers which protection you might lose by reducing packaging.

Check when the delivery estimate starts

Separate seller preparation, domestic delivery, warehouse receipt and inspection, your review, packing and international transit. A carrier estimate generally describes only part of that sequence. Check the stated starting event rather than counting a transit window from the day you bought the goods.

For example, if one hoodie is still awaiting dispatch, the ready shoes at the warehouse are not already in international transit. Decide whether to wait, ship the accepted items or investigate the delayed order, while keeping the earliest storage deadline in view.

Use the current line’s estimate as planning information, with time for processing and unexpected delays. This guide does not assign a universal delivery time to the USA, UK or every European country.

Ask about any missing charges before paying

Please confirm this quote for [country, postcode], [contents], [packed weight] kg and [length × width × height] cm. Which weight and rounding rule is used? What charges are excluded? When does the delivery estimate start? Which carrier handles final delivery, and what protection or claim conditions apply?

Recheck contents, recipient name, address and contact details against the final parcel submission. Keep an item under return review out of the shipment. Confirm that a coupon has actually reduced the payable amount rather than assuming the headline discount applies.

After dispatch, follow the parcel status

Keep the selected route’s transit estimate with your parcel reference after dispatch. When you need to interpret a scan, find the final-mile reference or follow up on a stalled update, use the order and parcel tracking checklist with the latest event date and status.
